Are You Running Your Business With Your Pants On The Ground?

I recorded this video in response to a member / client dropping off  one of my done for you marketing systems.  He was getting great traffic. Ranked #1 or #2 on Google in many different categories or search phrases.  Before my system his site was virtually invisible except in his small niche market where all of his competition was.  We had his site getting over 100 visits a day (80% from search engine optimization techniques).

His problem was getting his employees to do just 30 minutes of required work each week on their end to make it really sing.  Instead of putting his foot down and making his staff do the work he dropped off my system which is a Cadillac and opted for a simple solution (that doesn’t work)…basically a YUGO.  Not to mention these clowns didn’t even take the time to review the training videos and tips we provided with their system…DUMB!

I think that he’s running his business with his pants on the ground around his ankles tripping him up.  I would have fired the 3 lazy staff members and found 3 better ones to replace these bozos.  With unemployment in his area hovering around 13% there is no excuse for keeping staff members that won’t comply with your program.  Who’s running this place…You or Your Staff?  No wonder so many small businesses don’t survive economic conditions like we’re facing right now.

Pull your pants up and get back on track right now.  You’re the one signing the paychecks.  You’re the one with your house on the line.  Stop letting these losers run your businesses.

Darin and Andy have created the Olivia Davis Foundation to help a friend and business partner that had a daughter that’ been affected by a tragic medical condition.  Originally the foundation was created to offset the family medical bills, but it is now going to be used to help lots of other families.   The Olivia Davis Foundation will be making contribution to the following organizations:

  • The Miami Children’s Hospital
  • The Epilepsy Foundation Of Florida
  • Make A Wish Foundation

Will You Do Whatever It Takes?

RichardBransonOne of the questions that I get often has to relate in one way shape or form to how did you become so successful without going to college.  Really I think it’s a pretty silly question because if you look at some of the most successful entrepreneurs including Bill Gates (Founded Microsoft & now the richest person in the world), Sir Richard Branson (Virgin Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and about 50 other businesses) just to name a few; they don’t have a 4 year degree.  Today it’s more like a 5, 6 or more year degree.  With all of the talk coming out of Washington D.C. I think even more students will find excuses to become “life long” students racking up tens of thousands (some hundreds of thousands) of dollars in student loans, yet if you ask them what they are going to do many respond with a puzzled look on their face.

I truly believe in ongoing education, however it needs to be something that you have a passion for.  You have to really want to become a master at what you are trying to accomplish.  I reinvest lots of time, energy and money in acquiring new information, new tools, new contacts and finding short cuts to success each and every month.

One of the biggest reasons I believe that many people don’t succeed is they don’t have any written goals either.  I believe that if you have written goals of what you want in your life personally and professionally you can get whatever you want.  If you ask your friends or family members if they had a written goal for their personal life I’d bet a thousand dollars that less than 3 of 10 will have them.  How can I be so sure?  Most surveys will show that only 3 – 5 % of Americans actually have written goals.  Did you know that only 2% of American really gets wealthy?  Maybe this is just a coincidence, but probably not!  Goals motivate you to move mountains.  I recommend you share your goals with your friends and family members out loud.  Don’t keep them hidden…now you have pressure to perform.

Let me share my most recent personal goals with you…

Recently I committed to running the Miami 1/2 Marathon as a fundraiser for the Olivia Davis Foundation that I founded for a friend in need at the time.  Now we are helping other children and families that have been affected by a debilitating disease.   These families crushed by medical expenses and the pure emotional stress that comes along with it.  I hadn’t run a single mile for over 10 years before committing to this.

Step 1 – Told a bunch of friends and family members
Step 2 – Told a 1/2 Million Families online about the attempt.  These are families that joined our Kids Bowl Free program.  We’re actually going to allow families to train with us online.  It should be fun.
Step 3 – Started running on the treadmill at the YMCA
Step 4 – Started asking questions at General Nutrition Centers (GNC) and got on a vitamin and protein shake plan to build muscle and stamina. Went to the running specialty store and got some tips on training from some guys who’ve done this before.  They sold me some socks that keep your feet from blistering and help your feet breathe.   They also sold me some “racing” shoes.
Step 5 – Kind of on accident the Barista at the Starbucks told me that she was a personal trainer after I had told her about the Marathon.  Now I have a personal trainer working on helping me lift weights, etc.
Step 6 – Complete the race and raise a whole bunch of money for The Olivia Davis Foundation. (Click Here To Help Out)

See if I would have just said it sounds like a good idea to run the 1/2 marathon I’d probably not have gotten this far.  I’m now 30 days from the race and up to 6 Miles in under an hour on the treadmill.  My goal was to complete the 13.1 Miles in under 2.5 hours before I started training.  I now think I may get their.

Are you willing to tell the world your dreams, take action to reach your goals and then repeat this process?  This really is the formula for success.  There are lots of talking heads out there telling you what to do…but do they really do what they say they do…ur Tiger Woods!  It’s my philosophy that if you set a goal, write it down and then tell a lot of people about it you will do whatever it legally takes to reach that goal.

What Did You Learn Christmas Shopping?

I’m sure that most of you have been out fighting your way through the crowds at the mall, grocery store or other retail outlets trying to finish up your Christmas shopping. We’re you paying attention?  Even though shopping annoys me to no end, I make it less painful by watching what retail stores are doing right and what they are doing wrong when it comes to marketing and customer service.  I did have my girlfriend do a big portion of my shopping for me as she’s a dedicated “shop-aholic”, but I couldn’t outsource a few gifts and I couldn’t let her buy her own gift.

Presley and I In Front Of Our Tree

Presley and I In Front Of Our Tree

It’s even more clear to me now that 90% of business owners deserve what they are getting right now. The business owners and franchises that WILL be going out of business just after the 1st of the year should have nothing to complain about except their own incompetence.  I compressed most of my shopping into two nights and a trip to Chicago for ONE item.

So here it goes.  When the dust settled I had stimulated the economy with close to $10,000 in total spending and I learned a lot.  While shopping at the mall I had visited a few well know retailers.  You know all of the stores that most local business owners think that they can’t beat.  Gap, Williams-Sonoma, Justice, Yankee Candle, The Buckle, Younkers…just to name a few.

During my struggle it was very obvious that the “art” of selling is no longer needed to get a retail job.  Looks to me like if you have a heart beat and you will work nights and weekends…you’re in!  This at a time when unemployment is 12% and if the government actually calculated it by adding the people who just quite looking it would be closer to 20%.  You know there are alot of former car sales guys looking for jobs, former real estate agents, mortgage brokers, but these Big Dumb Companies obviously have no interest in hiring someone who can actually sell something and continue to hire incompetent staff.

In most stores you were left to your own devices.  No offer to help you find the perfect gift.  No offer of exchanging sizes from a fitting room.  Many stores were so understaffed that they had 50 customers and only 2 or 3 employees.  Merchandise thrown all over the place or no merchandise left on the racks.  Upon finally discovering the gifts that we actually wanted it was a basic nightmare to check out.  One cashier at most stores and 10 or more guests trying to check out.

In retail the majority of their business happens in just 90 days.  Now you’d think that they would put out an all out effort to maximize sales and position themselves for the new year and attempt to retain new customers that were brought in for a holiday gift.  Let’s just talk about two simple strategies that they completely BLEW!  #1 – I was only half heartedly upsold on one occasion.  I bought my sister a high end T-shirt and a gift certificate. The girl actually asked if we needed a cami for underneath.   That was the ONLY occasion that an upsell was offered.  The upsell is about the easiest tactic for retail stores.  The customer is already there, they’ve already decided to pull out their wallet and now all the store needs to do is ask and 3 out of 10 times they’ll actually sell something.  #2 – I was NEVER asked for my Name, Mailing Address, Email, Phone Number, Nothing!  Since this is what I teach, preach and practice…it blows my mind every time I see these BIG DUMB COMPANIES report earnings and come up short. Most aren’t practicing the two easiest business building strategies selling more to existing customers (upselling) and / or selling more often to your existing customers via direct mail, email, telephone calling, etc., etc.

I will actually take joy in some of these companies leaving and making room for the businesses that actually get it.  In my next post you’ll actually hear some good news.

#1 – What can you learn from a Car Wash (really a small local chain of car washes that gets it)
#2 – Why Cliff in the liquor department at the grocery store deserves a High Five and an award for selling
#3 – 5 Big Mistakes made by a Very Upscale retailer on Michigan Avenue (proving that if you have a product that can be sold with emotion instead of features / benefits you can have some very poor sales skills and still sell)

Merry Christmas,

Darin

The Difference Between A Business Owner And Us Crazy Entrepreneurs

I am often told by a business owner that they are an entrepreneur, but most of the time I disagree with their position.  Most business owners, especially those that are struggling financially right now are truly business owners and not entrepreneurs.

So what’s the difference between a business owner and an entrepreneur?

Here’s a quick example of a business owner…Bob owns a jewelry store on a busy intersection or at the mall in your local community.  Bob sells lots of jewelry inside of his store but he doesn’t really expand his business offerings.  Bob might add a second store but essentially Bob still is a business owner with two locations.

Here’s a quick example of an entrepreneur that owns the same jewelry store…Bob has the same location or two locations.  Bob also starts doing private shows at a local upscale restaurant to find prospects for his line of custom jewelry that sells for double or triple the price of his “stock” jewelry.  Bob then creates a list of customers that attended his private events at the local restaurant and invites them to a “Diamond Exploration Trip”. Bob arranges a trip to Antwerp, Belgium where he and the local travel agent craft an experience trip where Bob gets a percentage of the money spent on the trip.  Bob has now created another new revenue stream.  But Bob’s a crazy entrepreneur and part of the trip requires each attendee to find their own diamond that Bob then mounts for them in a necklace, earrings or bracelet.  Bob also creates an online website where his customers can become members to receive additional discounts and coupons.  Bob charges a small fee to become a member but gives back double this fee back as in-store coupons.  Bob also teams up with local charities to do monthly fundraisers at his store.  Where members of the charity spend cash and Bob returns a percentage of that money to each charity.

See the entrepreneur continues to add new revenue streams and other businesses to their existing business.  Most people are really business owners that have just created a job for themselves.  Many entrepreneurs find it difficult not to find opportunities or new ways to create revenues for their companies.  It’s the reason why many of my friends and I that are entrepreneurs have been able to rise above the current economic crisis and have record years.

I’m thankful that I’ve become an entrepreneur and not a business owner.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Mom I Finally Went To Class

Last Monday one of my friends and business partners that teaches entrepreneurship at UW Whitewater invited me to speak and share my success strategies with his students.  It was my FIRST time inside the four walls of a college classroom.  I was a horrible class room student in high school, and had very little ambition to study for four more years.  I did attend a local tech school for a semester…but I don’t think it would really qualify as a semester.

Al (my professor friend) wanted me to share my entrepreneurship story with his class and then some of my systems for getting things done with his class.  Even though I was a horrible student in the class room I consider my self an avid learner.  I just took a speed reading course to help me increase the amount of information I am able to sift through to find useful information to help me grow my own businesses and also my clients businesses.

I shared with the class my entire story starting by picking up trash in the parking lot of our family bowling center for quarters to play video games, my DJ business that was started with a set of home speakers and a bunch of borrowed CD’s, my rise from bartender to partner in a 60 lane bowling center and now my explosive growth in my online marketing businesses.  All done with no formal education, but probably a HELL of alot more real life experiences, a real passion for business, my personal search for information that helps me grow each of my businesses and a system for managing myself to get things done.

In every new venture I am constantly making mistakes by moving forward FAST.  Never getting disturbed or sidetracked with small fires.  In fact I look to start fires to move my businesses forward.  So many business owners are waiting to get everything perfect…I’ve got news for them…It should never be perfect.  It’s a constant battle to make improvements, challenge your self to get your product to the next level.  However most business owners are paralyzed trying to make small decisions because they might offend someone, they might upset their staff, etc.  My philosophy is to disturb some everyday including my employees.  Challenging them to say yes we’ll figure out how to do it instead of coming up with excuses as to why we can’t do it.  I encourage my team to push the envelope and challenge me too.

The class had a whole bunch of questions.  I’ll share just a few with you.

#1 – What are your 3 favorite books.

  • The New Psycho-Cyberntics (Dr. Maxwell Maltz / Dan Kennedy)
  • NO BS Time Management (Dan Kennedy)
  • Think & Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill)

I have quite a few more but these have probably been the most influential and life changing.

#2 – How do you get so much done and do you ever have fun?

This was a bit of a loaded question as they probed me looking for the excuse for success.   Geez look he’s working all the time and never has any fun.  Actually I do work ALOT.  But I work pretty smart.  My entire day is scripted.  I take no incoming telephone calls from prospects.  All calls are scheduled.  Client phone calls are taken at specific times of the day, and most by appointment.  I also do alot of group selling instead of 1 on 1.

I do manage to have some fun over the last year: A trip to Disney World for my daughter’s birthday, two trips to Miami Beach, a number of Milwaukee Brewer games, Las Vegas, Tucson, and a few others.  So yes I work ALOT, but still have FUN too!

Here are a few comments from the students:

Darin’s Story of Hard Work and Dedication

Meeting with Darin was a pleasure as he had a great story about hard work and success. I loved learning little tid bits that could be utilized with any aspiring business man or woman. Hearing about this different projects and the various events he has attended was a great way to actually see his skills and success first hand. I would recommend allowing him to visit your school to talk to aspiring entrepreneurs about the many opportunities for victory in business.

Alicia Lowe, Whitewater, WI

Darin Spindler is very insightful, knows what he is talking about. Real life stories made me motivated to go get work done so I can become successful. He shows that it isn’t the amount of time but the quality of time you put into the business.

Garrett Lutzow, New Berlin, Wisconsin

Darin’s presentation was very insightful. It made me realize that true success is the result of hard work and ambition. His presentation was also motivating for me. Nothing is impossible if enough effort and time is put into it. It would be great if he could come back again and share more of his ideas and stories of being an entrepreneur.

Alex Moores, Whitewater, WI

Darin brought tons of real-world marketing concepts to the classroom that you just can’t learn in books. It was great to learn some of what it really takes to be an effective marketer. Darin even gave us some helpful tips on how to work more efficiently.

Are You Tired Of The Whining?

Right now there are so many business owners whining about the economy.  They are complaining that consumer spending is down.  The credit crunch is affecting them.  In most every business and / or niche these are just a bunch of excuses coming from individuals that have been unwilling to adjust to the new economy.

There is no doubt that right now is NOT the best selling environment for many types of businesses.  However I personally know many entrepreneurs that are having their best year ever right now in the face of the biggest recession since 1929.

A member of my mastermind group Rich Fercy sells “Wear Resistant” metal in a business to business environment and as of October 10, 2009 he reached his best sales number ever!  while the rest of his company sales team is off 20 – 70% Rich is way up!  Rich sells metal to construction companies for their rock crushers.  But…isn’t construction business way off?  Why did these construction companies need his metal if they were crushing less rock?  See my friend Rich got his A&* and started selling differently.  He invested in a new interactive web presence that gives great information, collects data, etc.  He also started using MORE direct mail in his business, not less.  Most people are running to email only…BIG MISTAKE!  Rich combined email and direct mail to sell over $200,000 of metal in just 30 days!

Quit Making Excuses! & Do You Need A Little Inspiration?

Last night my daughter and I went to a minor league hockey game and during the intermission they had “sled hockey”.  The participants were all young children who have become handicapped in some way that they can no longer skate.  So someone decided to create a sled with skates so that these children could play hockey again.

The children played hockey sitting down on a sled designed just for skating while using your hands to push.  They also had mini sticks that they held on to while skating.  It was a real inspiration to watch them.

I am willing to bet at some point these children were all delivered the biggest blow of their life when a doc had to tell them they’d never walk again.  But these kids were determined.  They were fighters.  They didn’t listen to the people around them making an excuse for their handicap.  They just figured out how to what they wanted to do.  They didn’t sit in the corner sucking their thumb making excuses and crying (what many business owners are doing right now).

There are plenty more lessons that can be pulled from these courageous kids.  I just wish for a minute that so many lazy business owners would quit the whining and get to work.  I wish they would improve their sales process and make the recession your friend.

There are lots of business owners succeeding right now.  They have decided to quit making excuses and get to work.  I hope you get a bit of inspiration from the Sled Hockey team and get of you’re A&* and sell something today.

3 Years Since I Sparred With Cpt. Morgan

Presley & I at Miler Park for A Brewer Game

Presley & I at Miler Park for A Brewer Game

One of the big lessons that I teach to my clients is to use their personality in their copy and marketing materials to form a better bond with their prospects and existing clients.  I am also a big believer in practicing what you preach.  Often you will see pictures of me traveling and utilizing the stories and misfortunes of travel to teach customer service lessons.  Other times you’ll just see some pictures of my daughter Presley (named in part due to her mom’s love of Elvis Presley) & I hanging out.  I often give you insight to my upcoming events, marketing materials and more.

What I’m about to share with you is something many would be ashamed of or embarrassed to talk about…I’m actually quite proud of it.  3 Years ago today I had my last drink (Captain & Pepsi).  Quite cold turkey.  It was a decision I made about a two months before I actually quite.  I knew what day I was going to quite and I knew I was going out with a bang…3 solid 14 hour days of partying!!! Being involved most of my life in the bar and restaurant business it’s easy to push the envelope to let’s say excess.

About 5 years ago “a lot” of things were happening in my life.  The birth of my daughter (the happiest day of my life) and at the same time my marriage was going south.  Many reason that I will not share with the entire world, some due to my work and bad habits.  Moving forward a few years as my personal life was an entire mess it was easy to just work (ALOT) and stay out (ALOT) to forget about everything.

Along with my personal life becoming a mess I started having issues with one of my business partners and our difference of business strategy.  I wanted to provide the best experiences and entertainment value and charge for it.  He wanted to be the lowest priced guy in town and complain that he wasn’t making any money.  It didn’t take a CPA to look at pricing strategy and a few other benchmarks that were horrible as a direct result of the low pricing strategy.  NO business has ever survived on price alone…somebody will always try to lower.  Wal-Mart talks about purchasing carpet that will hide the color of the dirt, oil and grime drug in by their customers so they don’t have to clean the carpets as often.  This is a direct reflection of thier margins.  Disney on the other hand sells at high prices and paint the fence leading down Main St. USA EVERYDAY…and guess what they just RAISED their prices during the worst economic climate since 1929.  Disney can because the are not afraid one bit to charge for an outstanding experience and families cheerfully pay for the memories…no matter the price and over 70% of their traffic is from returning guests.  So my partner and I were the Wal-Mart and Disney Duo…but we were also drinking buddies as well.  When I decided to quite drinking our partnership became even more of a struggle and our dis agreements even starker.

During this period one of my great friends (and now business partner) Bruce Davis said a simple sentence that changed my life.  He said “Darin it’s time to for more thinking and less drinking”.  He saw all of the talent, knew about all of my frustrations, and could hear my struggles over the phone as we talked almost daily about my “issues” and how to get out of the struggle I was in.

That day I decided on Labor Day I would quite cold turkey!  That’s exactly what I did.  Since then I have parted ways with my former partners, got divorced and started a new life.  During these periods I lost a lot of so called friends.  Many a big part of my life for over 10 years.  When you make a drastic change in your life you find out who your real friends are and who was just another person in your past.

Many of my close friends and clients also know of Bruce’s struggles over the past 3 years as his daughter was diagnosed with a very rare brain disease that caused her to have 1/2 of her brain removed.  Olivia has made an amazing recovery, but it was an incredible struggle for her entire family emotionally and financially…but someone has looked out for the Davis family.  I’m certain it’s because Bruce and Steph have helped so many others including me improve their lives in so many ways.  We have now also created the Olivia Davis Foundation to help other families that have even greater health and financial struggles.

Today Bruce and I are partners in a few projects.  The last 3 years have been quite a ride.  The highest of highs and the lowest of lows.  But…I wouldn’t have changed them for the world.  My life has been replenished with individuals that are true friends and success oriented.   My life today is filled with freedoms that I could have never had before.  Structured my new life to be “very portable” and allow me to work when and where I want.  A life that allows me to spend more time with my daughter.  Lot’s of new business opportunities that would have never happened.  Successes that many dream of but never achieve.  As they say every thing happens for a reason.

What Barack Obama and All Politicians don’t get about Small Business…

On September 1st, 2009 our fine government put another handcuff on us small business marketers by eliminating almost all use of Automated tele-phone calls. Client utilizing my automated marketing systems have been using automated telephone calls to their existing customers with great offers, coupons and discounts are now left without another cost effective marketing tool that can be used FAST! Automated telephone calls were great to take advantage of an event that recently created a marketing opportunity (think local sports team goes to the playoffs, school was canceled because of weather, etc.). However the mis-use of this tool by a few businesses, many Politicians stumping for votes and charities that called random people (instead of a highly targeted list) repetitively causing “public outrage” according to government officials.

Here’s the real beauty of this new law…they excluded politician and charities…GO FIGURE. In the middle of the worst economic climate for businesses since The Great Depression…our fine elected officials are taking away more of our tools, yet in typical politician fashion not disrupting their ability to annoy the public with their own fund raising calls. I can hardly wait for them to install Obama Care and exclude themselves from the new health care system. Better be careful…they now have that watch dog list. Hope nobody emails the White House on me.

This is reason #98 that you can’t depend on just ONE marketing method. You need a marketing system that uses lots of media and lots of touches. Think of the satellite TV guys who were making a living off of making these calls. Now they are DEAD!!! This is why it’s vital to your ongoing success to use direct mail, telemarketing, TV, radio, Internet and yes even newspaper if you can make money with it. So many clients want to drop everything and have just an online presence…this to will some day be either taxed, have do not email list, etc. You have to continue to look for MORE ways to communicate your MESSAGE and not less.

For your reading enjoyment I am including a the actual Press Release and a great video of some bureaucrat talking about the dis interest of public receiving such calls.

New Rule Prohibiting Unwanted “Robocalls” to Take Effect on September 1

Telemarketers Must Obtain Prior Written Approval from Consumers Who Want to Receive Such Calls

Beginning September 1, 2009, prerecorded commercial telemarketing calls to consumers – commonly known as robocalls – will be prohibited, unless the telemarketer has obtained permission in writing from consumers who want to receive such calls, the Federal Trade Commission announced today.

“American consumers have made it crystal clear that few things annoy them more than the billions of commercial telemarketing robocalls they receive every year,” said Jon Leibowitz, Chairman of the FTC. “Starting September 1, this bombardment of prerecorded pitches, senseless solicitations, and malicious marketing will be illegal. If consumers think they’re being harassed by robocallers, they need to let us know, and we will go after them.”

The new requirement is part of amendments to the agency’s Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) that were announced a year ago. After September 1, sellers and telemarketers who transmit prerecorded messages to consumers who have not agreed in writing to accept such messages will face penalties of up to $16,000 per call.

The rule amendments going into effect on September 1 do not prohibit calls that deliver purely “informational” recorded messages – those that notify recipients, for example, that their flight has been canceled, an appliance they ordered will be delivered at a certain time, or that their child’s school opening is delayed. Such calls are not covered by the TSR, as long as they do not attempt to interest consumers in the sale of any goods or services. For the same reason, the rule amendments also do not apply to calls concerning collection of debts where the calls do not seek to promote the sale of any goods or services.

arrow1In addition, calls not covered by the TSR – including those from politicians, banks, telephone carriers, and most charitable organizations – are not covered by the new prohibition. The new prohibition on prerecorded messages does not apply to certain healthcare messages. The new rule prohibits telemarketing robocalls to consumers whether or not they previously have done business with the seller.

Under a previous rule that took effect on December 1, 2008, telemarketing robocall messages by businesses covered by the TSR must tell consumers how to opt-out of further calls at the start of the message, and provide an automated opt-out mechanism that is voice or keypress-activated. Prerecorded messages left on answering machines must also provide a toll-free number that connects to the automated opt-out mechanism.

After September 1, consumers who receive prerecorded telemarketing calls but have not agreed to get them should file a complaint with the Commission, either on the donotcall.gov Web site or by calling 1-888-382-1222.

The Commission’s 2008 press release announcing the changes to the TSR’s prerecorded telemarketing provisions and a link to the related Federal Register notice can be found on the FTC’s Web site at:http://www2.ftc.gov/opa/2008/08/tsr.shtm.

The Federal Trade Commission works for consumers to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices and to provide information to help spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint in English or Spanish, visit the FTC’s online Complaint Assistant or call 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357). The FTC enters complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure, online database available to more than 1,500 civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad. The FTC’s Web site provides free information on a variety of consumer topics.

The Power Of An Automated Marketing System

This post is written by a Great Bowling Marketer and Client Of My Automated Marketing Systems

We have handed out over 11,000 Kids Bowl Free cards and according to Darin Spindler at last check – we have over 3000 kids registered – and I am sure that has grown by at least 50% again in the last week. Since that spot was played on TV – our phone has rung non-stop with info on the Kids Bowl Free program. As a result of Kids Bowl Free program being so popular – our birthday parties have increased and late night / casual summer open play has been 20% or more up, also. What a winner!!

Since re-opening in April of 2008 after 7 months of being closed and partnering with another center up the street (which didn’t work out with those partners) – our programs since we restarted our original center have included many that I have learned from industry experts – including Bruce Davis, Darin Spindler, Max Cook & Fred Kaplowitz. Those 4 gentlemen right there represent probably the 4 greatest marketing minds in the bowling industry today. Programs such as After School Bus & Bowl, The Big Whammy, Bingo Bowling, Pizza Pins & Pepsi, Summer Carnival, Box Seat Bowling, Ultimate Teen Nights, HIP Nights and so many others that I have garnered have been infused into our center and has kept us busier than we were before we closed.

The first week of June – with “Kids Bowl Free” in full force – we have had anywhere from 1 to 2 hour waits in line for lanes and have generated AT LEAST an extra $400 to $500 a day in revenue for our 16 lane center – between extra bowling revenue and food / beverage sales. This does not take into consideration any arcade or vending revenues – which would be at least another $100 to $200 more. Shockingly – we are the only bowling center in Nebraska offering this program. I guess the other centers didn’t want the extra $15,000 in revenue!!

Linking this to our new website which Darin Spindler has helped us with automatically links all of the kids and mom’s names from Kids Bowl Free to our website and contacts them automatically for birthdays, teen nights and more. Our website has become our most effective advertising tool we have. When combined with fax blasts, voice calls and direct mail – we have such an advantage on all of the other centers in town – it’s almost laughable. Bruce & Darin are phenomenal at this – and those who don’t use them are missing the boat.
